Position
We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Designer ready to take on a leadership role, delivering complex, strategic design solutions while upholding our rigorous standards in quality, safety, and efficiency.
As a pivotal member of Juno’s team, you’ll independently manage design concepts, technical content, and project deliverables with minimal oversight. This role empowers you to set design directions, manage timelines, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and drive project success.
Key Responsibilities
As a senior member of our team, you’ll engage in high-impact projects and have the authority to direct technical decisions across disciplines.
In this role, you will:
- Develop complex design solutions, detailed electrical deliverables, and strategic project concepts independently.
- Guide all phases of project design, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Interface effectively with mechanical, civil, and structural disciplines to drive integrated project solutions that align with Juno’s standards.
- Set and manage expectations for hours budgeted, direct timelines, and oversee the work of junior designers to ensure project efficiency and budget adherence.
- Lead discussions with vendors, clients, and stakeholders to align project requirements, resolve design challenges, and manage deliverables effectively.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Uphold Juno’s rigorous safety and compliance standards across all design phases, ensuring deliverables meet or exceed industry requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of design experience in industrial facilities
- Electrical Engineering Diploma (or equivalent) from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Eligibility for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or a Professional Engineering License in Canada and/or the US
- Only candidates authorized to work in Canada will be considered.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have verifiable experience with the following areas of electrical design:
- Low Voltage distribution, protection, transformers, motors, lighting, heating, and VFD applications
- Medium Voltage motor, soft starter, and VFD applications up to 4.16 kV
- PLC and DCS control panel design, including detailed wiring with different I/O cards
- Control systems architecture, specification, and application
- Codes and industry standards applicable to electrical equipment and installations in industrial facilities
- Electrical trace heating applications
- Hazardous locations and the application of electrical and instrumentation devices in these locations
- Electrical power and control interconnection diagrams
- Proficiency with Canadian Electrical Code
- Expertise using Bluebeam software
- Knowledge of electrical engineering and design principles in industrial facilities
To be successful in this position, you must:
- Be self-motivated and efficient with time management, respecting project schedules and budgets.
- Possess strong communication skills to manage interactions and coordinate efficiently within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable assets include:
Experience in:
- Medium Voltage distribution and substations design
- Development of communication diagrams, including Ethernet, Modbus RS485, RS232, Modbus TCP, Profibus, and CAN bus
- Power generation utility grid connection
- 25KV distribution engineering and design
- Diesel and natural gas power generation set, up to 13.8 kV.
- High temperature electrical trace heating applications using mineral-insulated tracing
- Field construction or commissioning
Proficiency with:
- Medium Voltage breaker/contactor protection schematics
- AutoCAD, SmartPlant, and/or Microstation
- ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software
Location and Travel Requirements
This position is based in Calgary, Alberta, with flexible remote work options. Occasional travel for multi-day site visits may be required.
