Electrical Engineer – Calgary, AB

Position

We’re looking for a full-time, permanent Electrical Engineer with 10 to 20 years of energy industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

As a senior member of our team, you’ll engage in cutting-edge energy projects, including renewable energy and battery storage systems, positioning you at the forefront of the industry’s future. You will develop and accurately complete all electrical deliverables required for projects.

Under the direction of the Project Manager, you will:

  • Execute projects independently, interfacing with other disciplines to ensure successful project completion.
  • Provide technical, cost-efficient solutions by comparing different options at the project FEED stage.
  • Interface with clients and third parties with project management tasks including scope definition, management of changes, and progress reports.
  • Oversee in-house engineering and design technical work products on multiple projects.
  • Provide input to P&ID development, including electrical requirements for process loads.
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications and datasheets.
  • Provide cost estimates for electrical system installations.
  • Interface with equipment vendors and review vendor drawing submissions.
  • Prepare construction documents and engineered work packages.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers in a collaborative team environment.
  • Provide technical expertise to other project teams within the company.
  • Perform and contribute to electrical systems studies including arc flash, load flow, harmonic, grounding and short circuit and protection coordination.
  • Perform Hazardous area classification studies.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews for all types of electrical deliverables.

Qualifications

  • 10 to 20 years of industrial experience, including two to five years of experience leading engineering teams in related positions.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university program.
  • Professional Engineering Licence in Canada and/or the US, or an Engineer in Training that is a current member in good standing with a professional engineering association in Canada.

Requirements

The successful candidate must have verifiable experience with the following areas of electrical engineering:

  • Low Voltage distribution, protection, transformers, motors, lighting, heating, and VFD applications
  • Medium Voltage distribution and substations, including protection design up to 13.8KV
  • Medium Voltage motor, soft starter, and VFD applications up to 4.16 kV
  • Hazardous location classification and fugitive emissions studies for industrial facilities
  • Electrical Arc Flash analysis
  • Control systems specification and application
  • Codes and industry standards applicable to electrical equipment and installations in industrial facilities

Desirable assets include:

Experience in:

  • Power generation utility grid connection
  • 25KV distribution engineering and design
  • Diesel and natural gas power generation set, up to 13.8 kV
  • Medium Voltage motor, soft starter, and VFD applications up to 13.8 kV

Proficiency with:

  • Microsoft Office software, including spreadsheet and document writing tools
  • Bluebeam software
  • ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software
  • Location and Travel Requirements

This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta. Opportunities for flexible work are available. While regular travel is not required for the position, only applicants who can work full-time in Canada and travel for occasional multi-day trips, will be considered.
